Rose Ambre Large Candle

The Rose Ambre earned its place the same way everything else here did: we burned it at home for months first.

The reason it made the cut is simple. Most candles scent the shelf they sit on. This one scents the room. The large version has four wicks in a handmade glass vessel that shifts from grey to green in the light, and the wide melt pool those wicks create is what actually throws the fragrance, so the four wicks are function, not decoration.

The scent itself is an evening one: English rosebuds over amber and musk, with oud, patchouli and tobacco underneath. It sounds heavier than it smells. In the room it reads warm and settled rather than perfumed, which is why we reach for it in living rooms and snugs, the rooms where the day ends.
