I love an oblong cushion because it's genuinely practical. On a sofa, it gives you lumbar support when you settle back, or a soft armrest when you're curled up at one end. And mixing square and oblong cushions on a sofa or bed creates a contrast of shapes and sizes that instantly makes the arrangement look more relaxed, more dynamic and far more inviting than a row of matching squares.

Then there's the texture. The faux fur is set in soft, uneven ribs, so the pile catches the light differently along every row and never reads as one flat block of colour. It's the kind of cushion your hand finds before you've even sat down.

Flax sits in that quiet space between warm white and the palest natural ivory. It adds depth to a scheme without adding colour, so it works just as well in a calm tonal room as it does softening something darker. I love it layered in front of a deep chocolate square cushion, where the contrast in shape, colour and pile makes the pairing feel considered rather than matched.

I insisted on a generous feather fill rather than a cheaper fibre insert. Feather gives you that proper sink in weight, and a quick plump brings it straight back into shape, so it still looks full and relaxed months down the line.

Care: As a faux fur, spot clean only.
Dimensions: W500 × H300mm
